Sometimes we do some work in hand also with halter and rope. In this season we can't do free walks outside the paddock as the fields are all cultivated. Noah needs to move and do some activity regularly because he has to loose some wait.

The video shows the dynamic of daily walk of about 6 km free roaming with two horses, one donkey and two dogs. Everyone has a certain autonomy to search food, run, explore and play as long as they don't do damage to the cultivation of the surrounding fields. We have places where we can go to without disturbing anyone and where we can feel free to move as we like. The relationship is based on tr...

There are moments when you feel that the desire to run meets with mutual consent. Then you don't need any commands, but start running at the very same time.

This exercise is not so easy for Degas being a Thoroughbred with a conformity to run fast with long strides and quite pronounced withers. To do it correctly to achieve the right benefit he should be able to lift/arch more the back and not lifting so much his head.

    Hello, Thanks for sharing these wonderful moments. When / how did you know you could let your equines go freely without them running away ? I mean, is it only because of trust and love like we would usually do with dogs ? Do you simply call them back to you when you want to go back home ? I have never seen anyone having this relationship with equines. That’s so inspiring !

    • @BILLYBAJI1
      @BILLYBAJI1 Рік тому

      Hello, it's not so easy to say. It was a question of feeling, having a relationship that permits them to have choices and being listened to. We all think "group" when we walk together, even when they sometimes run ahead they always watch were the others are. Sometimes I make the choice which way we walk, sometimes they do, it depends on the circumstances. They don't feel the need to "run away". They have a lot of autonomy during the walks and at the same time they feel the need to stay with the group they trust on. When the fields are cultivated, I need to be more careful because they don't see the difference.

      @@BILLYBAJI1 Thank you for your answer. I saw another video of yours where a field was cultivated and Degas was just about to enter it but you called him back and he instantly responded by coming back to you. That was amazing. Was it a lucky day or does he always listen to you like this ? How did you manage to make it work ? I would love to train my future equines to walk freely like yours, before even thinking of riding them someday.

I’ll follow your example within a couple of years, once I’ll be ready to host a horse and a donkey. I hope I’ll be able to build such a trustful relationship with them. Any particular advice you could think of would be highly appreciated ;) I’m currently watching Andy Booth’s videos and reading Helene Roche’s books. Have a good night !

    Hello ! Wow, I just love the kind of relationship you seem to have built with your animals. All of them. There’s a lot of poetry in the way you make your videos, that’s beautiful and so peaceful, it feels like heaven. I’m thinking of adopting a donkey (and a pony, later) in my garden too, organised into a paddock paradise slightly bigger than yours. Riding would be part of the project, but definitely not the main part of it. I’m more into sharing everyday life and going for walks in the mountains every 2-3 days. Considering I don’t know much about these animals (I’ve been doing many researches for a month but it’s still far from being enough), what advices could you give me ? Any book to read / videos to watch ? I know much more about dogs’ behaviour and ethological education so I get the main ideas but I now wonder about how to transpose it for donkeys and horses. Have a great day, thank you a lot for showing us all this is possible.

      Hi, I think it,s a mix, but I don't forse the horse to participate. I wait for the right moments. We do a lot during the walks when their motivation is high. Basically I use for the learning positive reinforcement, lots of patients and little repetition. Another way is to develop something out of whet the horse offers by himself. In this video initially I was just asking to trot on my side, but Noah offered more, so I joint and reinforced it with my own movement. Practically a lot comes out by chance, I do something and they respond, non right or wrongs, and we develop it. I also use a target in front instead of pressure from behind
